Adopt safely

Almost everyone here wants the best for animals. These habits protect you and the pets from the few who don't.

Red flags

Anyone asking you to pay money to “hold”, “ship” or “transport” a pet before you meet.
Pressure to decide today, or a price that seems too good for a pedigree breed.
Photos that look like stock images, or a poster who refuses a video call.
Asking you to move the chat to another app before you have met.

Before you adopt

Meet the pet in person, ideally at its current home or the shelter.
Ask to see vaccination records and the vet's details.
Bring a friend, and meet in a public place if it is a private poster.
Get a signed hand-over note with both parties' details.

If you are posting

Screen adopters: read the application, ask questions and visit the home if you can.
Never sell to people who want animals for breeding, fighting or resale.
Share your exact address only after you trust the person.
Ask adopters to keep in touch, and offer to take the pet back if it doesn't work out.

Common questions

Does it cost anything to use MalluPets?: No. Listing a pet and contacting an owner are free. Never pay anyone to hold a pet for you.
Can I list a stray I found?: Yes. Choose "Found on the street" when you post. Try to find the owner first and get the animal seen by a vet if you can.
Will someone visit my home?: That depends on the poster. Shelters usually do a home visit. We suggest meeting in person before any pet changes hands.
Who can see my phone number?: Only signed-in members, and only if you turn on calls or WhatsApp for your listing. You can switch to chat only at any time.
